The Haunting of Hill House

Today, Lise and Kevin gush about the Shirley Jackson classic The Haunting of Hill House, published in 1959 and made into the 1963 film The Haunting, written by Nelson Gidding and directed by Robert Wise.

Here is the YouTube video of David Warner reading the first chapter of the book.

Here is the Esquire article about the Netflix series The Haunting of Hill House. For those who’re interested, I finally watched the end of the series, and I just found it…confusing.

Lastly, here is a hilarious video parodying the overwrought style of 1960s horror films.

Let the Right One In

Lise and Kolleen get all fangirly over Let the Right One In, written by John Ajvide Lindqvist and published in Sweden in 2004, translated into English and published in the United States in 2008. The book was made into a film in 2008, directed by Tomas Alfredson with the screenplay by John Ajvide Lindqvist. (DO NOT WATCH THE AMERICAN REMAKE.)

Kolleen’s so in love with this film that she has a tattoo of Eli the vampire!

Rosemary’s Baby

Lise and Kevin take on the horror classic “Rosemary’s Baby” written in 1967 by Ira Levin and adapted for the screen in 1968 by Roman Polanski, who wrote and directed. Both Lise and Kevin highly recommend that you NEVER watch the sequel “Whatever Happened to Rosemary’s Baby,” which is horrific for completely different reasons.

The Exorcist

Lise and Kevin take on the horror classic “The Exorcist,” written in 1971 by William Peter Blatty, adapted for the screen in 1973 by the author, and directed by William Friedkin. SPOILER ALERT: At the very end of the movie, Regan reaches into the pocket of her pajamas and finds Pazuzu’s petals.

The Shining

Lise and Kevin take on the classic Jack Nicholson vehicle The Shining, published in 1977 by Stephen King and made into the 1980 film by Stanley Kubrick, written by Stanley Kubrick and Diane Johnson.
